All instruments are restricted to Bard. The additional effect from the corresponding instrument and your song varies on a case by case basis.

Instruments are fundamentally divided into two categories, String and Wind, that rely on the C-ranked String and Wind Skill respectively. String Instruments have a larger AoE range (based on skill) and less desirable enhancements, while Wind instruments have more desirable enhancements (particularly for enfeebling songs) and a shorter AoE range.
