Through the study of Far Eastern martial arts techniques, these lone warriors have learned to devote their lives to their cause and to their blades, the mighty Great katana.

The focus of the Samurai job is to take full advantage of the Tactical Point system of FFXI via the use of Weapon Skills and the creation of Skillchains. The Weapon Skills available to Samurai through their mastery of the Great Katana are among the most versatile in the game, exemplified with Tachi: Gekko, the only level 225 weapon skill with an alternate skill chain property. Samurai are also formidable archers, as use of Ranger as a sub job is quite prevalent, especially in lower levels. At upper levels, it is common to see Samurai use several other subjobs such as Warrior and Thief, and to a lesser extent, Dragoon and Ninja.

Acquisition

Samurai is an Advanced Job, released with the Rise of the Zilart expansion pack. Players gain the ability to become a Samurai after completing the Forge Your Destiny quest.
